GOP's Pro-Life Legislation will have the Liberals Screaming "There's no baby at 20 weeks!"
Whenever somebody proudly proclaims they're "Pro-Choice" (always with the air that they are more "advanced" in their thinking than a cretin such as myself,) I fire back this quick question:
"Ah, so you support abortion at any time, any place and any reason? You support aborting a baby at say-- 26 weeks after it is viable outside the womb?"
The answer is always "No." (I have some moderate friends, I have no nutso liberal friends.)
I can argue for the Pro-Life position from about twenty different angles and while it is not the issue that most drives me to action, (that would be the enormous size of government,) it is an issue that nonetheless is a critical part of my political DNA.
From the religious standpoint it is clearly destroying a life that God intended....it is murder. An atheist can say it's a bunch of cells, that is sheer stupidity.
You can argue from the standpoint of freedom and natural rights, our founding documents guarantee only to us LIFE, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Roe vs.Wade said there is a Constitutional Right to have an abortion at any time, any place, for any reason. NO- there is not and the high Court should never have created a de facto law of the land where there was never legislation in place to rule on. It needs to be overturned.
From the standpoint of simple common sense and responsibility. Birth control methods are 99% effective...combine a couple of them and add some basic counting of the days in a menstrual cycle (there are about 72 prime hours per month when you can conceive,) and there is absolutely no reason a woman should get pregnant if she doesn't want to today. (I won't even dare bring up the highly controversial idea of not having sex if you aren't ready to have children for fear of being called old-fashioned.)
Then there's the cultural aspect. Do we value life or do we throw it away in a garbage can? Do we throw away some 1.2 million babies a year away in a garbage can? And it's the Pro-Choicer's who are more civilized? Give me a break.
Liberals like to throw back the idea that those of us who are conservative want abortion to end, but we also don't embrace single-motherhood. True. I'm not sure how you argue that a mother and father are not the optimal way to raise children, but I will take a single-mother over an abortion any day of the week. There are non-governmental ways to support these women and their choice of life-- believe it or not.
I like to throw back at liberals that they want women to be able to choose to end a baby's life, but not be able to choose where that child would go to school once it's born.
Abortion doesn't help women, it hurts them. It can kill them. Some of the strongest Pro-Life activists are those who have had past abortions, including Jane Roe herself, Norma McCorvey. We have one population of women choosing to have children later in life and dealing with costly infertility treatments, while another population doesn't want to raise a child. Families can spend years and up to $20,000 to adopt a healthy baby with many disappointments along the way. We can do better than this.
Today, the GOP legislature in Minnesota is trying to put in place a COMMON SENSE law that should be embraced by both sides as COMPROMISE on an issue that continues to divide the country. They want to ban abortions past twenty-weeks, this would affect less than 2% of the 12,486 abortions performed in Minnesota every year. From today's article:
This November's elections swept in a wave of anti-abortion lawmakers, reigniting an emotional debate that has often divided the Legislature in the past. A separate measure to block state funding of abortion for poor women also awaits legislative action.
Fewer than 2 percent of the 12,386 abortions performed in Minnesota in 2009 involved fetuses older than 20 weeks, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota said those cases often involve fetuses with fatal medical conditions.
Don't you love the language of the Strib? Anti-abortion instead of Pro-Life for our side. Wouldn't that make the other side Pro-abortion? Nah- it's Pro-choice to the Strib! No, no media bias. No spin.
Any ultrasound at this point in the pregnancy CLEARLY shows a fully formed baby, we are told the sex of the baby. They move, you feel them moving, they suck their thumbs. And my GOD, you would have missed five periods by that point in time. There is NO REASON abortions should be performed at this point in a pregnancy. NONE. Liberals will have to pull out all the stops on this one.
I'll start with their tired old battle cry: REPUBLICANS HATE WOMEN!
And with that logic I'll toss back, LIBERALS HATE UNBORN BABIES (unless they are "planned.")
Good luck trying to sell people on your nonsense.
