Hey "Tall White Guys" and Bigots: Syl Jones is Coming to EP!

Written by Sheila Kihne.

A friend who works at an Eden Prairie business sent this to me...apparently this was blasted out far and wide.

First, it's very interesting to me that EP Schools would use district time, money and resources to promote a school board candidate in the middle of a very short campaign season-- that's Tori Hill in the picture.  In the original PDF you can read her name-tag.  I'd put money on the idea that Ms. Hill is the Administration's pick to win a spot on the Board.  They should immediately apologize for this blatant promotion of one candidate over the others.  This pdf was sent all over town.

Secondly, I think it's telling that Community Ed thinks you can bring people together by listening to the former Star-Tribune columnist, Syl Jones. He's a far-left liberal whose disdain for conservatives is well known.

Also notice the Pacific Educational Group's reference to "courageous conversations"....yeah, you'd better be courageous if you're a "Tall White Guy" (TWG) who wants to engage in a conversation with Mr. Jones.  From a 2001 Star Tribune Column: titled "Tall White Guys:  Too Consumed with your own Privilidge to Notice Who I Am"

Together, you and the other TWGs shut me out of key decisions, attempting to nullify my authority. You send conspiratorial e-mails to each other about issues that directly impact my job, planning your next moves in a game that I am too busy working to take notice of. You gather for secret lunches, buttonhole each other on the sidewalk, in the men's room, the gym, the athletic club dining room. You whisper and stare, or you talk loudly and back-slap, congratulating each other on the dubious achievement of avoiding open and honest communication.

I've been to business or medical or law school just like you, and I've got credentials that are as good as the ones you frequently tout. What I don't have is a raging ego, a killer instinct, or a penis. I mention the latter because you don't have to study Freud to recognize the importance of size in your world. It shows in the way you crowd shorter men to emphasize your height. It comes out in that gee-I-pity-her look you throw toward women who are overweight or don't otherwise fit your imperial standards of beauty. And in the curious way you deal with men of color, who may dress like you but somehow aren't cut from the same cloth. They seem to threaten you in ways that surpass understanding, ways that I find amusing.

Not that you have to be tall or white or even a guy to be a TWG. They actually come in all sizes and colors and both genders. The short ones, the ones of color and the women who emulate you are three times as obnoxious. They know they've got to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they belong in the world of TWGs despite their obvious deficiencies, and they work hard at being the kind of double-talking backstabbers of whom you can be proud.

Mr. Jones wrote a more recent Star Trib piece in May 2009, this time from a perspective of a white person...

We can't be too careful these days. We've got to screen out the bad influences and bar the door against the barbarians. Not that you're a barbarian, exactly, but you do have questionable practices. That strange-smelling food you cook is an example. Plus, we're not sure where you shop for clothes, but it's not where we shop. If you want to look like that, OK by us, but don't expect us to smile when you dress like you just swam across the border. And when you dress like us, we aren't fooled -- we know you're not.

Sure, we learned about mixed marriages and such from reruns of "The Jeffersons," but where we grew up a mixed marriage was between one Lutheran and one lapsed Catholic. People like you were probably going to go to hell, for any number of reasons. We ask the Lord to forgive our sins, but that doesn't mean he won't deal harshly with you.

Yowser!  The arrogance of Mr. Jones is astounding.  Is this what the politically correct call "hate speech?"

The event is also co-promoted by Edina Community Ed, and Bloomington/Richfield Community Ed.

I had given Eden Prairie Schools Superintendent Melissa Krull the benefit of the doubt that she was simply extremely naive and totally misguided.  But , school administrators who hire speakers like Syl and companies like PEG, are not misguided- they are just wrong.  In their effort to help under performing minority students, they use valuable resources so that "Tall White Guys" can gather at a pre-work catered event in the Garden Room to hear the "theatrical" performance of a "playwright" who makes a living off of this.

Speaking of PEG, there's much more news to come.  There appears to be brewing-in other parts of the state what I worried about in my very first post about PEG....potential lawsuits.

I'll be adding a "Tip" link soon to TAND because I'm getting emails from all over the place on this story, from people who have had to search for my email address.  It is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
